Rural Life
Stephanie Bivins shares how moving from North Carolina to rural Colorado and raising children in a remote ranching community made clear how difficult it could be to find child care. Families relied on informal arrangements with neighbors, while distance, transportation challenges, and road closures made access even harder. After hearing similar concerns from families in other communities, she realized the issue reached far beyond her own town. That discovery led her to work with a countywide initiative focused on improving access to quality child care and education—and supporting the teachers who make it possible, now serving as the executive director of the Mesa County Partnership for Children and Families.
